Turn an oversized sweater into a maternity top tutorial

May 2, 2012

I love how this turned out….just grab an oversized sweater from the thrift store (or your husband’s closet) and take a little out in the upper area, leaving the belly area oversized. Well, unless you have a REALLY big sweater, then downsize it down there too.
Thanks Meta for taking the pics…check her out, she is AMAZING! onemoremushroom on instagram.
Check out the before picture and instructions below.
Instructions:
1. Mark where you want to the sweater to be taken in.

2. Pin the sweater to be nice and flat.

3. Sew a straight stitch following your markings, remember to TAPER as you end, unless you are taking off inches at the start (like what I did with the sleeve, I didn’t taper. But the bottom of the sweater I did because it needed it).

3. Cut the extra off really close to the straight stitch. This material shouldn’t fray or fray too much anyway. If you want the edge to look nice and not fray at all, serge it or run a zig zag like stitch on the edge. **make sure you cut the armpit part really close so there is NO bunchiness.
