How to make leggings from your old track pants

Jan 7, 2010

I love it when a DIY project is fast and easy! I got an email from a lovely gal the other day asking how she could make her own leggings, and it gave me the idea for this refashion. It’s fast, it’s easy and its perfect if you’re a beginner or have limited time to sew (which if you have a toddler like me, then you do!!).

See I wouldn’t lie to you would I?? That was super easy right?

I find leggings to be an absolute must have when pregnant. I wear these under tunic tops and short dresses for more modesty – and sometimes with a skirt and tights in winter (to get the same warmth factor without having to wear pants). Plus since these leggings were made from old trackies, they are super soft and comfy. I’m totally living in these this week!

  • Sweet Jesus! I am 8 months pregnant and this is exactly what I need. I’m going to do this *tonight*. ^_^

  • That is genius. Thanks for the DIY!

  • OMGosh! I so have to try this! Thanks a bunch! I have some old trackies which I LOVE, but are not wearable as is anymore. This might fix them and keep them “alive” a bit longer :D

  • Amazing! You always make things look so simple – amazing!

  • What a great idea! I don’t think I have any trackies to do this with but my sister might. Thanks for the instructions!

  • I can’t believe you made them yourself!

    They look great.

    • Thanks Darling!! xoxo

  • [...] Megan from MeganNielson.com shows how you can make a pair of leggings out of an old pair of track pants.  This refashion is so deliciously simple!  I’ll be digging through the recesses of my pants drawer today so I can make a pair for myself.  Go to the tutorial. [...]

  • Awesome refashion!! I’ve been needing some leggings, and I have way too many old pairs of yoga pants sitting in the back of my pants drawer.

I blogged your tutorial on Craft Gossip Sewing:

  • Thanks so much for this idea. I have been wanting to make comfortable, warm long johns at a reasonable price. We seniors always need extra layers.
